Yes the Celtics should extend Jrue Holiday

Yes the Celtics should extend Jrue Holiday

In all of the fun and excitement of the season fans don't usually like to look ahead to what is coming next season. We're after the instant gratification of the here and now! We want to kick ass and take names, NOW!

But as a professional Celtics watcher and podcaster sometimes I must adjust my gaze towards the future, however hard or confusing it may be for me. I have a duty to the Chuddyheads scattered throughout the Chuddyverse to see what they don't, look where they won't, etc.. It can be scary, but thankfully the the sponsor pays well for these services.

This week my all-seeing eyes were directed at this screen grab that was floating around the interwebs..

As you can see, behind that very large man are some very large numbers. Those numbers are the 2024-2025 player option for Jrue Holiday, and the extension he is also eligible for. Pretty large numbers, indeed. At first glance I thought this may mean that our run with Jrue might be a short one. One magical season burning bright, hot, and fast like a comet in the night sky.

However my all-seeing ears were also directed to an episode of the NBA Next Podcast where Keith Smith tells us his belief is that the Celtics will extend Jrue similar to the way they extended Al to keep him in a Celtics uniform for his whole career.

Keith explains the cap stuff better than I could, and since I failed high school economics I can either trust his math or get angry and call him a nerd. I will do the former, and I am going to just take the plebeian view of all of this. Fancy cap math withstanding, YES WE OBVIOUSLY SHOULD RE-SIGN JRUE. And I know we have Tatum and White due for paydays soon, but guess what - YES WE OBVIOUSLY SHOULD RE-SIGN THEM TOO!

Now I can hear some of you now saying "But Doug, that's a lot of money for them to be spending!" And sure it is. But you know what else was a lot of money at the time? The Marshall Plan. But it rebuilt Europe. The Bass Pro Shop Pyramid. But it put American architecture on the map. My ride on mower. But it allowed me to ride around the yard looking extremely busy on weekends. The point being, sometimes it pays to spend.

And the Celtics have the money, I mean just look at this pic from my last trip to a Celtics game:

You don't charge $12.99 for a slice of Sal's Pizza if you're not planning on tossing some money around.

And before you confuse my point with the prices, I am NOT complaining about that price. You can bet your ass I paid it. Twice. It's called binge eating INVESTING. And when I look at this current roster all I want to do is invest in keeping it together. High priced pizza and beers is a small price to pay for what we've got going with this team.

In conclusion, sign Jrue, sign JT, sign White. Sign 'em all!!!
